     Dorothy Draper Hollywood Regency Design

Born in old Hollywood's heyday, Hollywood Regency is a glamorous, sophisticated style combining fine-lined furnishings, rich colors, and fantasy elements such as chinoiserie, palms, and fretwork.  Legendary set decorator Billy Haines became interior decorator to the stars in the forties, and the style carried over into fine residences of the time.  Hollywood regency rooms functioned as "sets" for their inhabitants, who ostensibly lived a glamorous life of poolside parties, cocktail hours and exotic travel.  Today's Hollywood Regency style has evolved into almost a cartoon of itself, with over the top pattern and color.  To read more about the roots of Hollywood Regency, visit our interior design article here: Hollywood Regency Design at Posh Living

Put on a big hat, pour yourself a Pimm’s, and crank up the old Victrola.  British Colonial style encompasses a wide range of design elements and furnishings, from the Caribbean to the Far East, India, Africa and even Hong Kong. All share the influence of far-flung places conquered by the British as they marched around the globe – importing their culture and shipping exotic finds home.

The English also adopted fabrics, such as lighter cottons and linens, in the tropical places they were grown. Linen or mattress ticking slipcovers covered the heavy furnishings and protected them from the dust that filtered in through open windows in the heat. Interiors in the tropics were light and airy, punctuated by the occasional floral chintz or mahogany chest from England; linen and cotton clothing replaced wool.  Local craftsmen printed fabrics with themes designed for the European marketplace - toile scenes, botanicals, and tree of life prints were exported from the colonies back home and became popular reminders of the adventurer's journey.  To read more about the history of British Colonial design, click here to visit our interior design website: British Colonial Style

Our vintage Chinoiserie pillows came about in a rather serendipitous way; as a favor for a friend, I visited a lady whose husband ( a door to door salesman since the 50's) had passed away and left old merchandise piled up in a barn.  She thought there might be some curtain rods we would want.  When I arrived, the barn was full of never-used items - outdated linens, old metal rods, pots and pans; none of it in very good shape.  To be polite I stayed a little while and sorted through a few things.  It was a huge mess, but poking around, I found a stash of pretty vintage jewelry and became encouraged.  Then, high on a dusty shelf, were packages of curtains, never opened.  Most were pretty dreary, since the gentleman's career seemed to span into the 70's, so there was a lot of brown tweed.  Suddenly, a silky orange panel appeared, then more bright colors. Turquoise, baby blue, bright yellow, even a stylish gray, all printed with dragons! Even better, the dragon pattern is arranged in squares on each panel.  What luck to find vintage fabric new in the package after so many years. So perfect for pillows! We bought all the lady had, and some other pretty fab vintage panels too, and the rest, as they say, is history. We'll be making some other colors too, and they'll all be limited edition - when the panels run out, that's all!

We've added over 10 new designs this spring, at great price points!  All pillows can now be ordered as a pillow cover only - provide your own pillow insert and save!

Folly: a thing “extravagant and picturesque” and created in “a fanciful taste”

Our desire to help make your home fun, stylish, cozy, warm, artful, interesting, relaxing and full of personality has lead to the creation of Pillow Folly.

It’s about our passion for fabrics, and wanting to share that passion. It’s for all of us who can’t resist pretty things. We are not a big manufacturer – we’re just two moms with a small design shop by the coast. Our products are not made overseas; we’re creating jobs for locals in small-town South Carolina who have families to support. We’re out of the rat race, and we want to keep it that way; we want to make your life beautiful by throwing a little Pillow Folly into it!

The bits and pieces we collect for our homes express our uniqueness, our substance, our style and our story. We sincerely hope you’ll enjoy what we’ve gathered here, and that our designs may become a part of your story.

All of the pillows are designed by us and made in our workrooms right here in the southeast. We use new and vintage fabrics, and most of the pillows are made in small numbers. The selection is ever-changing, so we encourage you to check back often.

Warmest hellos,

Kerry Ann & Layla
